MUSIC THERAPY.

Music therapy is the use of music to treat an individual or a group of individuals for their Physical, Emotional, Cognitive, social, and mental issues. It is not that you can randomly employ any music for any type of ailment. It includes not only listening to songs but also indulging in other activities like drumming, singing, writing songs, imaging, and all that makes up for music therapy.

Music therapy is effective and applicable to all people across ages, employment sectors, health factors, and the area are just unlimited where this therapy can be applied. Music therapy can be evenly applied to persons with high blood pressure as well as to persons with low blood pressure. And researches have shown that Music is capable of curing even the incurable.

And it is also not that you can employ any type of music for the treatment of any type of disease. A lot of factor goes into finalizing which music will work and which will not. For example, a hyperactive person can do well with music that calms the nerves. Religious music will be beneficial to him. It is always good to let the music play in the room. Nerve-calming music like Religious songs can go a long way in promoting mental health among the masses.

Initially, Music therapists work with the client on day to day basis, talking to the client, knowing what works and what not, This may include working for long hours and creating workable and curing music notes that works. Music therapy is one of the oldest therapy available to mankind and is the most effective one. A trained music therapist can cure even the most incurable diseases, but it is generally effective in depression, mood swings, not able to focus, memory lapse, Behavioral disorders, Schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s, and many more. Bereavement is also one of the most effective spaces where Music therapy can be applied. When a person has lost someone and is in a state of shock and despair, he would rather want to be left alone than be a part of the group or society. That is where Music therapy can play a great role. Even psychiatric cases thought to be not treatable by the traditional method of treatment has shown remarkable improvement when administered Music therapy. Music therapy given in tandem with Yoga shows remarkable results on the patients and has done wonders for them.

Music therapy has been found to be working great in Relieving stress and symptoms of anxiety. Music therapy is often found to be the answer to both the above symptoms. Music therapy sessions are generally one to one and often lasts between 30 minutes and 1 hour. These sessions are often need-based and can be scheduled as per one’s requirement, just like you book a session with a psychotherapist.

Unlike other therapies, Music therapy works well when it is administered in a room with a calm atmosphere and no noise or outside intervention. The idea behind administering Music therapy in a calm place is that ears should hear only that much that it is sent to hear. Music makes a man Godly and when he is totally immersed in that and it also helps the body flushing out toxins from it.

But how does the Music therapy actually works? Music therapy is basically an interaction between the Client, the Therapist, and the Music. Depending upon the client’s/patient’s conditions and his/her needs, the therapist chalks out a program that will be beneficial to the client and aid him in earlier recovery. After taking down the Patients history, as is normal in all cases of treatment, the Therapist chalks out a well laid out plan as to which music to be given, whether it is to be given indoors or outdoors, whether the music should be of the birds chirping or instrumental music, whether it should be pop or light music, etc. When you say Music therapy, it does not mean that you could play any music randomly and hope it works. And neither I nor you can administer it. It is a specialized job and let the specialized person handle it. A fully trained and professional music therapist will be able to join the dots that are missing. What is worthy of Music therapy is that it can be used regularly and effectively on both Adults and children.

Now the question being asked is, Music therapy is effective in which disease. Though it is good in all the diseases, Music therapy has shown remarkable results on persons diagnosed
with mental disorders like depression, schizophrenia, anxiety, Parkinson’s, and more.

Why providing music therapy is easy? Because it is always impossible to find a person without any connection to music. It is an inbuilt feature in almost all human beings that they have some sort of bondings and liking for the music. If you want to check how music works, try playing the music at a place where people are struggling, living in fear, struggling with their lives, no joy, and only despair, and you will see what you have done to them. You have brought heaven down on earth for them. When more than 70% of the world’s population is living like that, with no hope for the future and present already tense, it makes great sense to introduce all of them to the music and try to make Earth a better place for them to live in. Those NON GOVERNMENTAL ORGANISATIONS, who are working for the betterment and upliftment of the people living at the lower level of the society, and who are reading this, I will suggest them to start providing music to them and see the magic happening around them. When music is on, let them do whatever way they want to dance, because at that moment of time they are expressing their emotions and their outlook towards the world. Their task will be half done if all the NGOs and those working for the upliftment of mankind, introduce Music as the primary subject in their syllabus. I would even go up to the point of saying that music should be made a compulsory subject in all the primary schools because it will even enhance the productivity of the students even in subjects in which they are not able to cope up with. Music and dance should be compulsory for all the children up to the primary level of education.
