As the name itself is self explanatory,it is posture in the form of dead body.Just as the dead body lays in the state of rest,in shava asana also,the body lays in the state of rest.The best time of doing shavasana is the early morning,around 4 am,empty stomach.
Wake up early in the morning,and after doing your early morning chores,just spread a mat on the floor and wear loose clothes.Lay down on the mat n your back,spread both your arms sideways with bpth the palms directing towards the sky,loosen your body,close your eyes and focus on your breath.No need for hurrying.THE WORLD WILL STILL BE THERE AFTER 20 MINUTES,WHEN YOU HAD FINISHED THIS.
Just calmly watch your breath coming in and going out.Just watch it calmly.Starting will be difficult. Thoughts will come and go.But dont fight with them.Just watch them silently coming and going,and there will be a time,when it will be totally blank.That will be a time when there will be no thoughts,totally silence and it will be totally bliss.But keep on focussing on your breath,trying to expand your visualization,seeing yourself as a small drop in the ocean and finally seeing yourself as a part of the universe and suddenly you are bigger than yourself.Again focus on your breath and move your feets and palms slowly,rub your hands slowly,put them on your eyes and open your eyes slowly.Get up and now you are ready to start your day with new energy and motivation.
Among the immense benefits of Savasana,some of them is controlling blood pressure,improving focus and concentration,weight control,getting rid of constipation which is the main cause of all the ailments in the body.Once your constipation is gone,you have a very light and relaxed body to work with.Nervous calmness and Muscle relaxation are the other benefits of the Savasana.
Though it looks easy to do but it is the most difficult aasana to do.But practice can make you start reaping its benefits.
